Staying in La Mauricie
Every time I travel, I spend an inordinate amount of time finding accommodations. I search multiple websites, guide books and magazines for the perfect place. Obviously, money is always a factor but because of my “stricter” budget to visit all 47 parks, making the most of my money during the Quest is even more critical. For your information, I put “stricter” in quotation mark because I have a fairly loose definition of that word, especially when it comes to budgeting.
For the Quest, my goal is to find accommodation inside the park I’m visiting, and if that’s not an option, than as close as possible. La Mauricie Park did have a very interesting option inside the park: Wabenaki and Andrew Lodges. It seemed perfect: historic log homes located accessible by snowshoeing a few kilometers. I say “seemed” because when I called to reserve I learned that we would be sharing our room with eight strangers. Hmm… Not so perfect. I’m a friendly sort but not to the point of sleeping in the same room as a bunch of strangers (at least I can poke my husband awake when he snores).
I was so happy when I found Les Chalets Enchantés in Saint-Boniface (about 25km from the park). I fell in love with these little log cabins named after characters in the Little Red Riding Hood fairytale. We stayed in Mère Grand (Little Red Riding Hood’s grandmother). Our cabin was charming and included all the amenities for a perfect vacation. And to top it off each cabin has its own hot tub out on the deck. Super romantic place! I highly recommend the place, even if you’re aren’t visiting the park.
There is nothing quite like ending a hard day of hiking with a soak in the hot tub with a glass of wine! I’m really enjoying this Quest!
