The Park Next Door: Thousand Islands National Park

Patience is not one of my virtues - quite the opposite. So, once I was committed to my Quest, I had to immediately visit a National Park. Fortunately, the Thousand Islands National Park is less than a two hour drive east from Ottawa. I should know because in July 2000 Michel and I honeymooned in the park! For several days we canoed and camped on a few of the 24 islands and 129 islets that form part of the park.

In October 2017, we were back in the park hiking the Jones Creek Trail System which consists of 16 km of looping paths and gorgeous views. We spent several hours exploring the trail's forested ridges, rock faces and marshes. We were particularly impressed with the variety and size of the trees we encountered during the hike.

And to top it off, we had lunch on the park's iconic red chairs.

The only downside of the expedition was the 30 black-legged ticks that our dog Porto collected during our walk! But all is well, Porto is feeling fine.

My Quest is off to a great start with a perfect day in the Thousand Islands National Park.
